How to make your cat rap with AI

Pick the Pet Rapper template, upload one photo of your cat looking at the camera, add its name and up to 3 habits, and the AI writes a rap and makes your cat perform it at a studio mic. A 15-second video is 15 credits.

A cat rap, start to finish

Mango is an orange cat who knocks cups off tables and sleeps in the box rather than the bed. His owner typed those habits in, picked a roast vibe on a drill beat, and uploaded one photo. This is the result:

An orange cat in sunglasses and a gold chain rapping at a studio mic
Mango Don’t Care: Pet Rapper, drill beat, roast vibe, male voice, 15 seconds.
Mango in the shades and he don't careKnocked your cup off and he left it thereGold chain, orange fur, sitting on the stoolCat on the mic and he's way too cool

The sunglasses came from the lyrics, not the photo: "Mango in the shades" made it into the scene. The fur, the face and the markings came from the photo.

Why cats suit a roast

Dogs brag well because dogs are eager. Cats roast well because cats do not care, and the joke writes itself: the rap is the cat explaining, without remorse, every rule it broke today. The roast vibe gives that tone; the cat cannot be offended, so you can go as hard as you like.

Cat habitThe bar it becomes
Knocks things off tablesGravity test, every morning, no notes
3 a.m. zoomiesNight shift, sprinting laps in the hall
Ignores its name, comes for the canSelective hearing, perfect for snacks
Sleeps in the box, not the bedSpent your money, chose the cardboard
Sits on the keyboardJoins every meeting, unmuted
Brings you "presents"Pays rent in whatever it caught

Hype works too, for the cat that runs the house. Sweet on lo-fi suits an old cat, a cat birthday or a memorial.

Getting a cat to look at the camera

This is the hard part. The lip-sync needs both eyes and the mouth, so a cat looking away will not work, and a cat that is far off on the sofa is too small to animate.

  • Wait for the moment after a meal or a nap, when the cat sits still.
  • Crinkle a treat bag or tap a pen just above the lens. The ears go up and the eyes come to you.
  • Get down to its eye level. A photo from above shows the top of the head, not the mouth.
  • Shoot by a window. Black and tuxedo cats need the most light to show the mouth.
  • Take a burst and pick the one with both eyes open. Crop in so the face fills a good part of the frame.

Any phone photo at least 512 pixels on the short side works. Long fur is fine; whiskers and fur colour carry through to the video.

Frame by frame

Three frames from the Mango video, captioned with the bar sung at that moment. Cats have small mouths, so the movement is subtler than a dog’s; the head bobbing and ear twitches do a lot of the work.

Mango the cat rapping in sunglasses, frame 1“Mango in the shades and he don't care”
Mango the cat rapping in sunglasses, frame 2“Knocked your cup off and he left it there”
Mango the cat rapping in sunglasses, frame 3“Gold chain, orange fur, sitting on the stool”
Drill beats have a slower, heavier bounce, which suits a cat’s small head nods.

The steps

  1. Open the rap maker with Pet Rapper picked.
  2. Type the cat’s name and its worst habits. Pick My pet or Birthday as the occasion.
  3. Pick Roast for a chaos cat, Hype for a boss cat, Sweet for a senior.
  4. Read the free lyrics and fix any line that is not your cat.
  5. Upload the photo and check the free first frame.
  6. Pick a length. 15 seconds is the whole hook. Render, then download the MP4 with no watermark.

Lyric starters you can steal

[NAME] on the counter and you know he was told,Knocked it off anyway, that’s a cat being bold,Box on the floor and the bed cost a lot,Guess where he’s sleeping, the box, not the cot.

Replace the name and swap in your cat’s habits. Keep each line under about 60 characters so it fits a bar. Or let the generator write all 16 bars from the habits, free.

A cat birthday or "gotcha day" works with any of these: put the age or the adoption date in the first line, and the habits in the rest.

A sweet rap for an old cat

Not every cat rap is a roast. For a cat who has been around for fifteen years, a slow lo-fi rap about the small routines is the kind of thing people keep. Keep the habits gentle and end on the company:

[NAME] by the window where the sun comes in,Fifteen years of mornings and you’re still my twin,Slower on the stairs but you’re first at the door,Every day I’m home, you were there before.

Use a recent photo that looks like the cat today. For a cat who has passed, a clear older photo works the same way; Song only is a gentler option if a moving face feels like too much.

Other pets and other formats

Rabbits, hamsters and birds work the same way, as long as the face is clear. For dogs, see how to make your dog rap. For the roast lyrics themselves, see how to write a roast rap. To have only the song, pick Song only and download an MP3.
