Birthday rap lyrics: fill-in templates and examples
A birthday rap needs a 4-line hook with their name, their age and one inside joke, then a short verse of two true stories that ends on why you love them. Copy a template below, swap in your facts, or have the lyrics written free from their name.

The birthday hook formula
Every birthday hook does four things in four lines: says the name, says the age or the day, makes one joke only friends get, and sends the wish. Put the name at the start or middle of a line and rhyme on easy words: late, great, cake, make, year, here.
That shape is what the real samples use. Here is the hook from a 30th birthday sample, where the habit was being late:
Hooks for the person it is for
Change the joke to fit the relationship. These are starting points; replace every bracket with a real detail.
| For | Opening line | Joke to use |
|---|---|---|
| Best friend | [NAME], it’s your birthday and we took the mic tonight | The trip that went wrong, the bad date, the shared fries |
| Boyfriend | Birthday boy [NAME], yeah, you know you’re my guy | His cooking, his gaming, the hoodie you stole |
| Girlfriend | [NAME] on her birthday and the whole room knows | Her playlists, her plants, the way she wins every argument |
| Mom | Mom on her birthday, still the boss of the house | The calls, the lunches, the burnt toast |
| Dad | Dad turned [AGE] and the jokes got worse | Dad jokes, the grill, the thermostat |
| Coworker | [NAME]’s birthday, yeah, the meeting can wait | The coffee order, the reply-all, the desk plant |
Keep the jokes about habits and stories. Age jokes are fine for friends and family who laugh at them; skip weight, looks and anything private.
Lines for milestone birthdays
- 21st: "Twenty-one and the ID finally real, / Ordered at the bar like a brand-new deal."
- 30th: "Thirty on the clock but you’re still in your prime, / Still asking for the wifi every single time."
- 40th: "Forty on the floor and you ain’t slowing down, / Last one dancing in the whole town."
- 50th: "Fifty years strong and you’re running the show, / Half a century cool and you still steal the glow."
- 60th and up: "Sixty candles and the fire alarm’s scared, / Still the first one up and the last one there."
The 40th line is from a real sample, a party video for Jen. Hear how a milestone hook sounds on a trap beat with a female voice:

“Forty on the floor and she ain't slowing down”
“Last one dancing in the whole town”
“Glitter on the dress and the candles lit”A full 16-bar birthday rap to copy
Here is a complete birthday rap built on the formula: a 4-bar hook, two 4-bar stories and a 4-bar thank you. Swap the brackets for your person and it is ready to send or to perform at the party.
Change "the man" to fit, and if your person is not a fan of being teased about age, swap line 1 for "it’s [NAME]’s birthday and the night is blessed". Read it aloud once; any line you trip over, cut a word.
Ways to deliver it
- Written in a card: copy the hook and the thank-you lines. Eight lines fit on a card.
- Performed at the party: print it, practise twice, and play a free beat from your phone.
- As a song: the full rap with a beat and a vocal, sent as an MP3 or a gift link.
- As a video: their own face rapping it, made from one photo. The hook alone is 15 seconds.
The verse: two stories and a thank you
After the hook, a gift rap needs eight to twelve more bars. Use four for each of two stories, then four to turn sincere. The turn is the part people remember: it is what makes a birthday rap a gift rather than a roast.
“Thirty and still late”
“Happy birthday Mike, you're still great”
“Candles on the cake and the whole crew here”How long it should be
| Where it goes | Length | What to keep |
|---|---|---|
| Story or group chat | 10 to 15 seconds | The hook only |
| Party speaker or toast | 30 seconds | Hook and one story |
| The gift link | 60 seconds | The whole 16 bars |
A 15-second video plays the four hook lines, so the name and the best joke must be in them. Keep each line under 60 characters so it fits a bar.
